This is a vintage photo album of summer residences in France created by Albert Levy, French photographer active in the 1870/90's. He worked also for Andre, Daly fils et Cie. to develop another magnificent photo album in the United States (see "L'architecture americaine").
This is the first book of a serie of three. Each book has 36 photos, and so, the three together have 108 albumen vintage photos. The collection is titled "Recueil photographique des nouveilles habitations pittoreques de France urbaines et rurales en pierre, brique, bois, ...". The title for this serie is "Villas et chalets pittoresques". You can find references of the other series in "Culture France" and in this pdf.
In this serie, 36 photos of summer houses in France's coast have been collected as a sample of richman's life in that time. In the mid nineteen century American architects came to Europe to study in the "École de Beaux Arts de Paris". Maybe, this is why these houses, in some way, look like "American Style".
The allurements of French taste were particularly attractive to newly rich and socially ambitious Americans for whom Parisian fashion signified sophistication: and worldly attainment. See the pdf.
